Oceangram Tracking is a feature that allows the original sender of an Oceangram to see what the recipients of that Oceangram have added to it. How does Oceangram Tracking work? When you are in the message writing screen (only when you initiate a new Oceangram), you should see a box at the bottom of the message scroll, just under the text "Tracking email". After typing your message, you can enter your email address in this box. When you send the Oceangram, you will be sent an email to the email address you provided. This email contains a tracking number for that particular Oceangram. The email address that you provide will not appear in the Oceangram, it will only be used to send you the tracking number. Do not type your email address in the Oceangram message itself, that will void the whole message and it will be deleted from the system. The email that you receive contains the tracking number as well as a link to the Oceangram tracking page. Copy the tracking number from the email. Click on the link to open the tracking page, and paste the tracking number in the provided box. Click "Get Message". A copy of your message will be retrieved along with any additions that people may have added to your Oceangram. Please note that what you see is only a copy of your Oceangram. The Oceangram itself is still in the ocean traveling to its destination. Therefore, you cannot add to or re-send this copy. You can track the Oceangram as many times as you wish. That does not affect the progress of the Oceangram traveling from beach to beach. If your Oceangram has retired, you will see a note regarding that at the end of the tracking information. Do I have to provide my email address for every Oceangram I want to track? Yes. You receive a different tracking number for every Oceangram you initiate. Can I send Oceangrams without providing my email address? Yes. You can send Oceangrams without providing your email address. However, you will not be able to trace your Oceangram or receive any information about it. The odds of receiving your own Oceangram back depends on the number of users and the number of Oceangrams in the ocean. Is it safe to provide my email address? We use your email address to send you correspondence regarding that Oceangram only. Your email address will not appear in the Oceangram message when it is delivered to other people. We do not share your email address with other entities without your consent. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information. Can I track comments that I add to other Oceangrams? No. Only the original initiator of the Oceangram can track the messages in that Oceangram. When I track my Oceangram, I only get the original message I wrote, is something wrong? There is nothing wrong. Your bottle can travel for a while before it reaches its destination. It could take a day or two before someone receives your Oceangram and adds a comment to it. Also, some people receive and forward messages without adding anything to them. As long as you can track your Oceangram, it means it is traveling in the ocean, unless the tracking information tells you it has been discarded. I did not receive the email with the tracking information? Some email providers block our automated emails considering them spam emails. Known email providers that do that are AOL, Comcast, RoadRunner, and Verizon. Other providers send our email to a junk folder. We cannot guarantee that our automated emails will reach you. If you do not receive our emails with the tracking numbers, you can try to use another email provider that gives you control over who you wish to block or unblock, such as hotmail, yahoo or gmail. Please do not email us regarding this issue or ask us for tracking numbers. The tracking numbers are generated automatically and we are not able to re-generate them or find them. |

I lost my tracking number, how can I get it again? Unfortunately there is no way to get your tracking number again. Do not delete the email with the tracking information until you are ready to let go of that Oceangram. I do not see the box to enter my email address for tracking The box appears at the bottom of the writing scroll when you are starting a new Oceangram (not when replying to received messages). The box is labeled as 'Tracking email'. I tried to track my Oceangram but it was 'not found' We filter all messages and comments that are sent using our Oceangram service. The system automatically removes messages and additions that do not pass our user protection standards. If you try to track a message that has been removed from the system by the filtering system, you will receive the note that your message was not found. Even though you may be able to track the message immediately after you send it, it may be filtered at a later time and it will be deleted if it does not pass the standards. If you sent a message that passed the filters, and someone else added a comment to it that does not pass the filters, your message will remain safe in the system while that comment will be removed. How long will my Oceangram be traceable after if has been discarded? We periodically archive discarded messages. You will be able to track your discarded Oceangrams until they are archived. The time period varies based on the time your message was discarded, whether it is at the beginning of the archival period or at the end. We are not able to provide you messages that have been archived. If you wish to save your discarded Oceangram, you should save it on your computer as soon as your tracking information tells you that your Oceangram has retired. |
